Below you will find access to Animal Science Category Project Areas. There is a short description of each project areas. If you select the “click here box”  you can  learn more about the specific project opportunity.

Beef Cattle

The 4-H beef project allows you to learn about breeds, selection, grooming, production, management, showmanship, marketing and careers through a breeding or market animal.

Cats

The 4-H cat project helps you explore what kind of cat fits into your family’s lifestyle. Cats need your love and guidance to live long and healthy lives. The project will help you learn about nutritional aspects of a cat’s diet, health needs and practicing responsible ownership.

Dogs

4-H Dog project members will have fun while learning more about dogs, pet citizenship, feeding, grooming, dog trials, breeds and their importance, over population, sharing a dog with others, health, dog language, community laws and careers.

Diary Goats

The 4-H dairy goat project allows you to learn about breeds, selection, grooming, production, management, showmanship, marketing and careers through a breeding or market animal.

Meat Goats

The 4-H meat goat project allows you to learn about breeds, selection, grooming, production, management, showmanship, marketing and careers through a breeding or market animal.

Horses

The 4-H horse project teaches management, techniques related to nutrition, health, first aid, teeth and aging, in addition to horsemanship, fitting, showing, caring for tack and equipment, horse demonstrations and judging.

Llamas & Alpacas

In the Llamas and Alpacas project 4-H members learn recommended finishing rations, how to give proper care to animals, and how to use good management procedures.

Pocket Pets

The Pocket Pet project is for members interested in any pet – frogs, fish, ants, guinea pigs, etc. Pet selection, identification of breeds, parts of the animal, handling, housing, daily needs and health problems are taught.

Poultry

All poultry projects give members training in the best recommended practices of hatching, brooding, and rearing poultry, marketing, dressing, breeds, egg production, breeding flock, fitting and showing, judging and demonstrations.

Rabbits

In the Rabbit Project members will decide whether they want to raise rabbits for meat, fur, wool, laboratory use, or showing, and select the best breed for the purpose.

Sheep

In the sheep project 4-H members learn recommended finishing rations, how to give proper care to animals, and how to use good management procedures.

Swine

The 4-H swine project helps you learn about swine breeds, health care, production, management, showmanship, marketing and careers in the swine industry.

Veterinary Science

Veterinary Science Project members learn how to determine the health factors for a normal animal. Members progress to understand animals and their behavior, health and diseases or other problems.

Project Judging:

In Laramie County we have introduced a Static Judging Rubric system for the Laramie County Fair.  These rubrics are going to be some of the things that judges will be looking at and awarding ribbons on at County Fair.  All animal science will be judged on the same rubric, species does not matter. Display rubrics are for things like posters, and binders; Physical items are for things like benches, clothing, etc.. Click the links below if you would like to take a look!
